Recreation Nova Scotia membership includes professionals, volunteers, educators, students, elected officials, and commercial organizations. RNS is open to everyone interested in recreation, community development, parks, fitness, sport, facilities, aquatics, therapeutic recreation, camping, the arts, culture, or other related sectors.
Membership Categories
RNS memberships are available for purchase or renewal in the following categories:
- Individual - $70 per year
- Student - $35 per year
- Municipal - $600 to $1300 per year (based on population)
- Group - $80 per year
- Corporate and Business - $130 per year
An annual membership is valid from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.
How to Become a Member of Recreation Nova Scotia
We are in the process of moving RNS membership services online! Recreation Nova Scotia has teamed up with local service provider PlayFinder to develop a custom membership services functionality into their platform for our purposes.
PlayFinder.ca is a Nova Scotian initiative and was collaboratively developed with the communities it serves. This new online community navigation platform aims to enhance connection and support access to recreation in rural communities by bringing together management functionality (registration, equipment, facilities, etc.) and community recreation information (like parks, beaches, trails, etc.) all in one place.
A free PlayFinder account is required to register or renew an RNS membership. In the future, a PlayFinder account will allow you to register for events and programming, including our annual conference, and access membership benefits, including discounted rates.
The following steps for registering or renewing your RNS membership are outlined for each membership category below:
Individual Membership: $70 per year After this initial setup, all future renewals and registrations will be a few easy clicks from your profile.
Student Membership: $35 per year
RNS Membership is open to any individuals and students who support RNS’s purpose and objectives. Upon payment of their annual fee, an individual or student member is entitled to all the rights and privileges of RNS membership, including discounts on events and training opportunities, access to all RNS programs and mailouts, and the chance to vote and hold office. To register or renew an Individual or Student Membership, please follow these steps:
Municipal Membership based on population: Any city, town, village, rural municipality or First Nations community that supports the purpose and objectives of Recreation Nova Scotia is eligible for a Municipal Membership. All recreation employees, recreation committee members and elected officials may be included in a Municipal Membership. Each individual named under a Municipal Membership will be entitled to full membership benefits, including voting privileges, discounts on events, resources and training opportunities, and all member communications. To register for or renew a Municipal Membership, the designated primary contact for the Municipal Membership should follow these steps: Action 1: Action 2: A PlayFinder representative will quickly follow up, providing admin access to your organization on the platform and communicating next steps. RNS will reach out with a personal invite to each of your additional representatives with details on how to set up a PlayFinder account. After this initial setup, all future renewals and registrations will be a few easy clicks from your profile.
Population of 0-4,999: $600 per year
Population of 5,000-14,999: $700 per year
Population of 15,000-54,999: $900 per year
Population of 55,000+: $1,300 per year

Any volunteer not-for-profit group that supports the purpose and objectives of Recreation Nova Scotia but does not fall under the municipal category is eligible for Group Membership. Group members are eligible for two representatives with two votes and full membership privileges, including discounts on events, resources and training opportunities, and all member communications. Groups can access the RNS general liability insurance program through this category only.

Corporate/Business members are eligible for two representatives with two votes and full membership privileges, including discounts on events, resources and training opportunities, and all member communications.
