NSON 2019 Summit
We hope you’ve all ‘Saved the Date’ for April 12 & 13, 2019
We are pleased to announce that this year the Nova Scotia Outdoor Network Summit is heading to Cape Breton, specifically Cabot Shores, Englishtown, Nova Scotia! A full program will be available in the coming weeks, but plan to arrive at noon on the 12th, and leave at 4PM on the 13th.
The Nova Scotia Outdoor Network, an initiative of Recreation NS, invites you to the second provincial gathering of the NSON. The summit is designed to bring together leaders in the outdoor field to share success stories and discuss issues related to the outdoor field in Nova Scotia. This year’s summit has the theme “Outdoors for All.” We will be specifically focusing on barriers to participation in the outdoors and ways to overcome those barriers. To that end, we welcome and encourage diversity in the network and would like to engage those who aren’t normally central in outdoor leadership discussions.

Outdoor for All Sub-Themes
We have designed 3 specific sub-themes to address this inclusive title:
1. The Backyard – This sub-theme focuses on accessibility and will include presentations that address financial and/or physical barriers or highlight innovative ways to get more people involved in outdoor activities in their own communities.
2. The Cultural Centre – This sub-theme focuses on cultural engagement in the outdoors and will include presentations that address cultural barriers or highlight innovative ways to expand multi-cultural involvement in the outdoors.
3. The Playground – This sub-theme focuses on early childhood engagement in the outdoors and will include presentations that address barriers to creating an outdoor culture through early exposure or highlight innovative initiatives to get more children (and families) outdoors from an early age.
The conference organizing committee has been hard at work creating a vibrant program, which includes plenary panels under each sub-theme topic and a variety of hands-on workshops. At this stage we would like to open the call for workshops. We have 30 and 60 minute workshop blocks available, so if you feel you could present something to fit under one, two or all of these topics please email Wayne McKay . We would prefer hands-on workshops and workshops that use the outdoors versus indoor spaces, but are open to any/all suggestions. Cabot Shores affords us a wide variety of possible locations on site.
Accommodations (NOT INLCUDED IN REGISTRATION FEES)
There are a wide variety of accommodation options available by Cabot Shores.
You need to book AND pay your accommodation directly through Cabot Shores and are encouraged to share space when possible. There are limited single occupancy options; the more we co-habitate, the more people can attend!

The registration fee for the Summit is $100.
Registration includes Lunch and Dinner on Friday, Breakfast and Lunch on Saturday and all coffee/snack breaks.
A full program will be available in the coming weeks, but plan to arrive for noon on Friday and depart by 4pm on Saturday. This should allow folks driving from ‘off Island’ to travel efficiently on two days. Alternatively, why not make a weekend of it and stay longer.
